Championing Organic Agriculture

Dr. Boraiah B is a distinguished Professor of Agronomy and Coordinator at the Research Institute on Organic Farming (RIOF), University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK Campus, Bengaluru. With over two decades of dedicated service in teaching, research, and agricultural extension, he has emerged as one of India's leading authorities on organic and natural farming systems.

His academic journey includes an M.Sc. in Agriculture and a Ph.D. in Agronomy from UAS Bengaluru, where his doctoral research on the effect of organic liquid formulations on capsicum laid the groundwork for his lifelong mission: proving that traditional Indian farming inputs like Panchagavya, Jeevamrutha, and Beejamrutha are scientifically valid, scalable, and economically viable alternatives to chemical agriculture.

Beyond his core degrees, Dr. Boraiah holds additional Post Graduate Diplomas in Rural Development (PGDRD), Agriculture (PGDA), and Agricultural Extension Management (PGDAEM), along with NET qualification from ASRB in Agronomy — reflecting his commitment to bridging laboratory science with grassroots farmer impact.

As Coordinator of RIOF, he leads a comprehensive research institute equipped with a 12-acre organic research block, mass production laboratories for bio-fertilizers, vermicompost and Azolla production units, and a model organic vegetable demonstration farm. Under his leadership, RIOF has become a hub for farmers, students, and researchers from across India and internationally — hosting delegations from Nigeria, Africa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.

His research output is prolific: 57+ peer-reviewed journal articles, 12+ books with ISBN (including ‘Natural Farming: Roots, Revive, Regenerate’ and ‘Organic Production Technology’), 43 extension publications, and 17 conference abstracts. He has presented at the prestigious Organic World Congress in Taiwan (2024) and organized three major conferences including the International Conference on Millets, Organic and Natural Farming (ICMOF 2023) as Organizing Secretary.

Dr. Boraiah has guided 2 Ph.D. and 6 M.Sc. students, managed 7 externally funded projects, developed 3 technologies as Principal Investigator and co-developed 13 more, and contributed to the development of 3 crop varieties. He has conducted 50+ training programmes for farmers across 5 Indian states and appeared in 20+ television and radio broadcasts on DD Chandana, All India Radio, Kasturi TV, and other channels.

Research Institute on Organic Farming

Established in 2008 at the GKVK Campus, RIOF is dedicated to developing and promoting organic farming technologies. The institute conducts cutting-edge research on soil health, bio-fertilizer production, and sustainable crop management, serving as a bridge between academic research and on-ground farming practice.

Key facilities include a 12-acre organic research block, mass production laboratory for bio-fertilizers, vermicompost and azolla production units, a one-acre model organic vegetable demonstration block, and field testing facilities for organic products.

Under Dr. Boraiah's coordination, RIOF has hosted international delegations from Nigeria, Africa, Kerala, and other states, and continues to train farmers and researchers from across India in organic and natural farming systems.
